After that, he turned to the occasional alcohol, which gradually led to the degeneration of his sight in the long run. (Bible ref much? Can't drink, can't screw, can't cut hair. Became blind after being betrayed.) He even ignored the first signs of his failing sight after he was told he needed glasses.
